About classes.

I offer fast-paced, hands-on science classes loaded with experiments and STEAM approach for students in grades 3-8 with a maximum of 7 students per class. I emphasize the development of students’ scientific process skills, laboratory techniques, and an understanding of the fundamental principles of science. Topics include the scientific method, introduction to microscopy and cell biology, plan biology, ecosystems, human anatomy, virology, genetics, space, earth science, introduction to physics, and chemistry. Students will learn to plan and conduct experiments with real lab equipment and analyze and properly report data. Classes include field trips. For example, Markham Arboretum tree walk in Concord, the salt marshes in Martinez, marine biology studies at the tide pools in Pescadero, the Tech Interactive in San Jose, a private gold mine in Pine Grove in the Sierra foothills and many more. Once in a while, I offer evening classes to study science in the dark. We learn about fluorescence, stargazing, watch the space station and meteorites, and celebrate Earth Hour in March. I hold a PhD in biology and 30 years of experience teaching pre-K to university. Some of my former students have their own PhDs now as well. I provide textbooks, homework, and grading. I hold two business licenses, one of which in tutoring, and the other in childcare. Students with disabilities are welcome and do very well in my classes the majority of the time. Everything is taught with a creation neutral approach, so that family values will not be affected.
