Flowers

Learn about 100 flowers in a fun interactive way.
We will observe, dissect, use a microscope, taste, smell, do crafts, and create scientific drawings. This class is appropriate for 3rd graders and up, including adults. This course starts and ends with “The 100 flowers quiz." You will be required to complete a worksheet after each class to give to your CT.
What to expect: An average 5th grader will be able to name 10 out of 100 common flowers. Most of the kids are unaware that we walk past the most poisonous flowers in CA every day. Several deaths are caused from ingesting poisonous plants in simple play each year.
This flower class is fun but it also gives you an idea what is safe and what is better to leave alone. We will learn about flowers in association with touch, taste, and smell.
The first flower we will study is the ROSE. Everybody knows it but who knows how many petals are in the rose and what a sepal is? Have you ever tasted tea from the rose hip, jam from rose petals, or rose ice cream? If you are interested in the connection between vanilla ice cream and orchids, velcro and artichokes, how many flowers are in a single sunflower, and what happens when you hammer flowers, THIS CLASS IS FOR YOU!
